It is consistently intriguing to observe what captivates individuals during keynote presentations. There are the typical prominent objects that receive the most attention. At WWDC 2024, Apple Intelligence emerged as the winner of the prize. Frequently, though, it is the minor elements that a presenter chooses to quickly go over that truly ignite people’s enthusiasm.
The introduction of Calculator for the iPad generated the most significant pre-AI buzz during the event. Prior to the company’s demonstration of its remarkable equation-solving capabilities, the mere mention of the app stirred tremendous excitement among the audience. Occasionally, the act of postponing immediate satisfaction is sufficient.
Although it is unexpected for me to acknowledge, the most thrilling news unrelated to artificial intelligence was revealed during the watchOS part. I have been persistently demanding this feature from Apple for several years, driven by my personal health challenges and the astonishing reality that I have contracted COVID on four separate occasions thus far.
The option to temporarily suspend the tracking of your activity rings may seem insignificant to most, but for individuals who excessively fixate on such matters to an unhealthy extent, it is the most noteworthy improvement to the Apple Watch in recent years. If you are feeling unwell because of a cold, traveling on an overseas flight, or if you are exerting significant effort to complete your daily activity goals by shaking your wrist forcefully around 9 p.m., you have the option to temporarily halt your progress. This may be done either directly on your Apple Watch or through the associated iPhone app.
There are other alternatives for pausing, including the option to pause for a single day, on specific days of the week, or for complete months at once. The system will continue to gather your metrics, however, if you do not meet the threshold that would typically complete your ring, your streak will not be lost.
WatchOS 11 introduces enhanced ring customisation, enabling you to modify your daily goals. If you designate Sunday as a day for recuperation throughout your marathon preparation, you have the option to decrease the workout objective. Once inputted, this will serve as the objective for that specific day of the week until it is modified once again.
Primarily, however, I am enthusiastic about the fact that I will no longer be required to engage in 30 minutes of physical activity when I inevitably contract COVID for the fifth occasion.
